Series 29.5 (RailSafe)*
First and likely last miniature art in Ward's current OmniDirectional panel-group style. (Hah: its a mini-series!) Made especially for the "Single Fare" exhibit in Brooklyn at the Kagan+Roy pop-up space in 2010. Jean-Pierre Roy and Michael Kagan required all art to be on MTA farecards. Hung in 2011 in a place of honor in "Single Fare 2: Please Swipe Again" [ exhibit poster ] at Sloan Fine Art [ www ] in LES. Upon dark-painted wood blocks, pieces of farecards (mostly from New York City but also Chicago and DC) join paint, vintage images of a garment worker (printed into celluloid), and newspaper clippings under clear acrylic film. Atop the clear layer are coins with either safety pins or hand-print shapes permanently pressed into each other by having used an approaching train as a roller-embosser. Warning: entering subway property to use train-impact as an art process risks injury and/or arrest; do not attempt.
